If you are a doctor (including GPs and GP registrars) who wishes to upskill in reproductive and sexual health using the latest clinical research and an interactive learning method, this course is for you. Formerly known as FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors, this course comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop and assessment.

This nationally recognised course provides current, evidence-based research and practice guidelines to enhance your knowledge, skills and confidence in reproductive and sexual health.

Delivery options and course structure

Theory Face-to-Face

This intensive, fast-paced blended learning course comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop and online assessment.

Upon completion you will be eligible to enrol in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors – Supervised Clinical Attachment. This includes structured, supervised placement at Family Planning Australia clinics. 


Pre-workshop activities

Completion of relevant online learning, which includes pre-reading and viewing of lectures online. This learning will take approximately 16 hours to complete. 

Face-to-face workshop

Participants are required to attend the two-day face-to-face workshop on the dates listed below, as it is essential for course progression. The workshop will feature interactive learning and discussion as well as a practical skill session focusing on key skills in reproductive and sexual health history taking, contraception, STIs, menopause and cervical screening.

Post workshop activities

Completion of online learning (approximately 16 hours) and completion of an online exam and online role play assessment.

Assessment

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Attend the two-day face-to-face workshop
  • Complete all online coursework before attempting the written exam and role play assessment
  • Successfully complete the written exam and role play assessment.

Recognition / Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete all course and assessment requirements will be issued with a Full Certificate.

  • Online learning opening: Monday 2 February 2026 
  • Face-to-face workshop (compulsory): Monday 9 March and Tuesday 10 March 2026 (Newington) 
  • Assessment period: Thursday 9 April – Thursday 21 April 2026 (online)

SRHA Course RACGP CPD hours

Current enrolment opportunity

  • Online learning opening: Monday 20 April 2026
  • Two-day online workshop (compulsory): Monday 18 May 2026 and Tuesday 19 May 2026
  • Assessment period: Thursday 11 June to Tuesday 23 June 2026
Supervised Clinical Attachment

Family Planning Australia provides a clinical skills workshop and supervised clinical placements for the Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors.

The clinical placement requires participants to attend a clinical skills workshop day to demonstrate their understanding of essential practical skills prior to their placement.

Participants will then have an opportunity to meet core competencies across a 32-hour placement in Family Planning Australia clinics. Together with our experienced clinical instructors in Newington, Penrith, Newcastle, and Fairfield, course participants will gain hands-on experience with the appropriate range of reproductive and sexual health issues.

This placement is only available to participants who have completed the Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors Theory course within the last 12 months. 

Registration

Participants are required to hold a theory and practical Implanon certificate to register. Participants must book in their own clinical placement spots before attending the workshop. 

Clinical Skills Workshop

Before commencing their clinical placement, participants must attend a Clinical Skills Workshop Day. This workshop focusses on key skills in history taking, cervical screening, common andrology and understanding of contraceptives. 

Clinical Placement

Participants must complete the clinical placement within 3 months of attending the workshop. During this placement, participants must demonstrate competency in core skills. Click on a clinic location below to book placement hours:

Assessment

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Attend a clinical skills workshop day
  • Attend a clinical placement that is at least 32 hours in duration
  • Demonstrate core competency using the competency record book

Participants who successfully complete all course and assessment requirements will be issued with a Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors.

Eligibility/prerequisite

Participants will need to:

  • Hold current unconditional registration with AHPRA
  • Have 12 months post-registration experience
  • Hold or obtain a theory and practical Implanon certificate before commencing clinical placement
