Course Details
This course is for primary and secondary school teachers who deliver sexual health and relationships education to students with an intellectual disability and/or autism.
The course explores myths and barriers and their impact on people with disability, building relationship skills, positive sexuality, safety, curriculum planning, strategies for teaching and talking about aspects of sexuality with students and ideas for working with families. Participants will also have the opportunity to view and use a range of current sexual health and relationships education resources that can be adapted for different learners, including resources for non-verbal students. This course has been developed in consultation with NSW Department of Education and is aligned with the Life Skills outcomes of the NSW PDHPE syllabus.

Course structure
This 1-day course is offered as a face-to-face workshop.
Eligibility/Prerequisite
Applicants should have prior work experience teaching students with disability.
Recognition/Accreditation
Successful completion of this course contributes to 4 hours and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Students/children with disability addressing Standard Descriptors 1.6.2, 4.1.2 & 7.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher in NSW.
