Introduction
This 2-day course is designed for workers in the disability service sector with a focus on best practices for educating clients with intellectual disability on relationships, sexuality, and sexual health while balancing duty of care and dignity of risk
Course Details
The sexuality of people with intellectual disability is often misunderstood. Disability workers are in a unique position to offer support on healthy relationships and sexuality.
This course takes a holistic and right-based approach to supporting reproductive and sexual health. Participants will learn about best practice principles for educating people with intellectual disability and use discussion and case scenarios to explore the balance between duty of care with dignity of risk. Learning activities are used to build confidence in proactively supporting clients with intellectual disability around relationships, sexuality and sexual health.
This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of sexuality, focusing on inclusive, person-centred approaches to support individuals with diverse sexual and reproductive needs.

Who should attend
Workers in the disability service sector, including managers, support workers, case managers and allied health professionals who work with people with disability.
Course structure
The course delivery includes a 2-day face-to-face workshop.
Eligibility/Prerequisite
Applicants must have prior work experience supporting people with a disability, or study in this field.
A Unique Student identifier (USI) is required for enrolment. If you have not yet obtained a USI you can apply for it directly at https://www.usi.gov.au/students.
Family Planning Australia can only issue a nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment when a participant has provided a USI.
Assessment
Most assessments will be completed during the workshop. A small number of assessment tasks may be completed independently following the workshop. All assessments are completed within two weeks following the workshop.

Recognition/Accreditation
Participants who successfully complete the assessment will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
This unit of competency may be credited towards a qualification from the Community Services training package (CHC), e.g. Certificate IV in Disability.
