The Nitty Gritty Online: Specialised Reproductive and Sexual Health Training for Youth Workers is designed for professionals who work with young people and want to enhance their knowledge, confidence, and skills in supporting positive sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
This comprehensive online course explores key topics in reproductive and sexual health, equipping participants with practical, evidence-informed approaches to engage effectively with young clients.
Throughout the course, participants will build their understanding of priority populations and develop tailored strategies to meet diverse needs in a respectful, inclusive, and youth-friendly way.
By the end of the training, learners will feel more confident in providing accurate information, navigating sensitive conversations, and supporting young people to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
Course is funded by NSW Health and delivered at no cost to eligible NSW participants.
Who should attend
Workers in the youth and community services sector who work closely with young people, including youth workers, Aboriginal community workers, program coordinators and case managers.
Course structure
The online course has core modules and modules focussing on priority populations.
This course provides interactive learning over eight self-paced modules. Estimated workload for the whole course is up to 6 hours. You have 4 weeks to complete all components of this course.
Core modules
We recommend you complete the core modules first.
Topics include:
- Communication and health literacy
- Consent
- STIs and BBVs
- Contraception
Priority population modules
After the core modules have been completed, you can select to complete one or more of these modules. They do not need to be completed in any specific order.
Topics include:
- Working with young LGBTQIA+ people
- Working with young people with disability
- Working with young Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people
- Working with young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
Eligibility/prerequisite
This course is best suited to people working in the youth sector or in a role contributing to the health, wellbeing and support of young people.
