This clinical fact sheet deals with genital warts, which are small, skin-coloured lumps that can appear on or around the genital and anal areas. They are caused by certain types of a virus called the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), particularly HPV types 6 and 11. These types are different from the ones which can cause cervical cancer.

Genital warts are not dangerous, but they can be uncomfortable, itchy, and can make people feel upset.
