SEARCH Webinar Series

These short 1-hour webinars are designed for clinicians working in primary care, providing practical updates, case discussions and interactive Q&A on medical abortion service provision.

Course details

The SEARCH project is improving access to essential reproductive and sexual health services for NSW residents in regional and rural areas and especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with a special focus on abortion care and long acting reversible contraception.

The project presents a series of webinars during the year which are led by experienced Family Planning Australia clinicians and subject matter experts. The topics presented include practical prescribing tips, case studies and nurse led models of care.

The second webinar in the SEARCH project series for 2026 is presented by Kitty Smith RN, FPA’s Director of Clinical Services (Acting) with the choice of two sessions.

  • 26 May 2026, 12 noon – 1:00pm Nurse led models of care
  • 3 June 2026 12:00pm – 1:00pm Nurse led models of care

The availability of abortion care in regional and remote areas of NSW often depends on the skills and abilities of nurses and midwives to facilitate access to choices for that care. This is especially relevant now with the legislated changes to prescribing in NSW last year.

Kitty will be talking about establishing and leading a nurse led model of abortion care – what that means, what it might look like, how to establish a service and also building the support needed for success.
